Amazon Migration & Transfer Services Monitoring

Seamlessly track your Amazon Migration & Transfer Services

Amazon Migration & Transfer services enable organizations to seamlessly move workloads, applications, and data to the AWS cloud or between AWS regions and on-premises environments, minimizing downtime and disruption. These services are tailored to support a wide range of migration scenarios, from large-scale enterprise migrations to efficient data transfers.

With Applications Manager, you can monitor the progress, performance, and health of your migration and transfer activities with ease. Applications Manager provides monitoring support for the following services:

Amazon File Transfer Family monitoring

Amazon Transfer Family is a secure and fully managed file transfer service that supports data transfers over popular protocols such as SFTP, FTPS, AS2, and FTP. Designed to move files seamlessly into and out of Amazon S3 or Amazon EFS, it helps organizations migrate, automate, and monitor file transfers without changing existing client-side configurations.

With Applications Manager, you can:

  • Monitor the rate and cumulative amount of data transferred in and out of the server.
  • Track the rate and total count of files transferred to and from the server.
  • Capture the number and failure rate of workflow executions initiated on the server, detailing total executions, successful completions, failures, and failure rates.
  • Gain insights into the total count and failure rate of inbound and outbound messages, including the number of successful and failed deliveries for each.

Amazon DMS Replication Instance monitoring

The AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) is designed to migrate data between databases, supporting both homogeneous migrations (e.g., Oracle to Oracle) and heterogeneous migrations (e.g., Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon Aurora). The DMS Replication Instance, a key component of DMS, handles the processing and migration of data between the source and target databases, ensuring minimal downtime and secure data transfer.

With Applications Manager, you can:

  • Monitor resource utilization, including CPU usage, available memory, and swap usage, to maintain optimal performance.
  • Analyze network I/O throughput to track data transfer rates in and out of the replication instance.
  • Assess disk performance, including throughput, IOPS, latency, and queue depth, to detect potential bottlenecks.
  • The Tasks tab allows you to monitor replication tasks with essential details such as Task ID, Task ARN, Type, Source and Target Endpoints, Status, Stop Reason, and Health, helping you track migration progress efficiently. Additionally, users are notified upon task deletion, ensuring better visibility and management.
  • View critical events in the Events tab, which logs replication instance failures, successes, and other key events along with timestamps, event categories, and messages for better troubleshooting.
  • Set up alarms for both tasks and events to receive real-time notifications on failures, completion statuses, and performance anomalies.

By leveraging these insights, administrators can ensure smooth database migrations, detect issues proactively, and optimize replication performance within Applications Manager.

Amazon DMS Replication Task monitoring

Amazon DMS Replication Task is a fully managed service that facilitates database migration and ongoing replication with minimal downtime. Designed to handle both homogeneous and heterogeneous migrations, it ensures seamless data transfer between source and target databases.

With Applications Manager, you can monitor key replication performance metrics, including CPU and memory usage, swap utilization, and migration progress. Track the number of running tasks, recovery events, and errors encountered during replication. Gain insights into full-load and CDC (Change Data Capture) throughput, latency, and data transfer rates for both source and target databases. Monitor validation metrics such as attempted, succeeded, failed, and pending validations, along with bulk and item validation query latency.

Additionally, Applications Manager provides visibility into source and target endpoint configurations, including endpoint status, engine type, SSL mode, and server details. With these comprehensive monitoring capabilities, you can optimize replication performance, quickly identify bottlenecks, and ensure data integrity across your database migrations.
